On the 2nd September 2015, Balluta Bay participated in the annual MALTEX Pollution response and Oil recovery drill organised by the Pollution and Incident Response Unit within Transport Malta in coordination with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).
The first phase of the exercise commenced on the 1st of September when a communications exercise between the afor mentioned entities and local parties involved in pollution response, including Tankship Management Ltd. was carried out. The exercise simulates the actual communications which are required in a real emergency.
On the following day the exercise was carried out with the participating vessels manouvering in formation. Balluta Bay operated the newly installed Dispersant system, amongst other oil recovery equipment and was the lead vessel for the exercise.
